Blockchain has a lot of potential for American astronaut Scott Kelly, who believes it will one day aid in space travel.
Following the nonfungible token (NFT) craze’s popularity among celebrities, athletes, and politicians, the emerging industry has engaged the support of an experienced astronaut to share his space expertise using NFTs.
Former US astronaut Scott Kelly said that he was “becoming interested” in blockchain technology and NFTs. Kelly claims to have been following blockchain for the last six years and has seen its potential.
“I have developed a growing curiosity on how it will play a role in space development which is something I would love to be a part of,” Kelly said. As a consequence, the astronaut wanted to interact with the NFT community.
Kelly’s journey into space is reinterpreted via a series of digital artworks in his new NFT collection, Dreams Out of This World. The drop garnered $500,000 in sales, which will go to the non-profit Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) to help individuals affected by the Ukraine conflict:
“The Ukraine crisis is something I hold very close to my heart which is why we will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the initial sale through GEM in support of Ukrainian relief.”
While Kelly recognizes that there are many other ways to help, he is pleased that he was able to help victims of the accident by starting an NFT collection. Kelly remarked, “I feel grateful to be launching a project at a time that allows me to support them in a way I may have not been able to do on my own.”
Kelly also believes that his excursion into the subject of NFTs would serve as an example to future astronauts. According to Cointelegraph, he stated:
“NFTs can offer astronauts a new outlet for sharing their experiences as opposed to posting this on the internet where it can quickly be lost in the shuffle.”
