Adidas’ Bored Ape NFT shows up in a new World Cup trailer with Messi and Benzema

Adidas’ Indigo Herz Bored Ape NFT is in a teaser trailer for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Messi and Benzema are also in the trailer.

Adidas has a long history with the FIFA World Cup, and this year, it adds a crypto twist.

Indigo Herz, a character from the sports brand’s Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), was featured in a recent promotional trailer along with football stars like Lionel Messi and Karim Benzema.

Herz was shown on a box of “Indigoooooals” cereal with the message that Benzema eats goals for breakfast. British rap star Stormzy narrated the video trailer. At the end, he made a cameo as the driver of the bus taking the players to the tournament.

Adidas acquired Indigo Herz, or BAYC #8774, for 46 Ethereum, or approximately $156,000 in September 2021.

Yuga Labs, the firm that founded BAYC, offers holders all intellectual property rights to utilize the characters for commercial purposes.

Similar to traditional logos or naming rights, Adidas is therefore permitted to use the Ape NFT on any physical and digital items, including sports jerseys, sneakers, and apparel.

This is not the first instance in which a Bored Ape has been utilized in this manner. Bored & Hungry, a restaurant in California, utilized Bored Ape #6184 throughout its menu and advertising.

Adidas also teamed up with Yuga Labs, the popular influencer GMoney, and the NFT collection Punks Comics to move forward with their metaverse engagements. Each character is featured in Adidas’ first NFT drop, which is called Into the Metaverse and is made up of NFTs from Yuga Labs, GMoney, and Punks Comics.

Also, in two days, the brand will show off its NFT Capsule Collection.

Based on the shape of the box and how people feel about it, the reveal is likely to be a physical clothing item that can be redeemed.

Adidas Into the Metaverse NFT Phase 1 gave holders exclusive clothing items, like a black hoodie with Adidas’ blockchain address, a yellow tracksuit with the logos of all four collaborators, and an orange Gmoney beanie.

The current level, Phase 2, is expected to improve on the physical items so that they can be used more both in IRL and in the metaverse.
