After Initially Declaring Beeple NFTs On Solana, Metaplex Apologizes

Beeple, the fantastic offspring of the NFT artistic community, is coming to Solana. At least, that is what Stephen Hayes, CEO of Metaplex Studios, the creators of Solana’s NFT standard, revealed on Sunday at the Breakpoint conference held by Solana in Lisbon, Portugal.

Monday, however, Mike “Beeple” Winkelman refuted the report, stating on Twitter that “nothing was set or remotely agreed upon” between him, Metaplex, and Render Network.

Soon after, Hayes officially apologized to Beepal for a “miscommunication” between the firms, so confirming – at least for the time being – that Beeple NFTs are not destined for Solana.

In response to Beeple, Hayes tweeted, “I’m here to offer my sincere apologies.” “It was the result of a miscommunication between the organizations involved, but these were my words in the keynote, so I should have confirmed that agreement, directly with you, was announced.”

Hayes further apologized to Beeple “for causing confusion for you, your fans and the community.”

On Monday, Jules Urbach, founder and CEO of OTOY and developer of the decentralized computing platform Render Network, elaborated on the cooperation between OTOY, Beeple, and Metaplex for Solana-based NFTs.

Beeple on Solana

On Sunday, Hayes supposedly announced an agreement to bring Beeple’s work to Solana. “In partnership with Render Network, we are excited to welcome Beeple to Metaplex and Solana,” Hayes said at Breakpoint.

Users will be invited to build their own unique NFT with Beeple every day utilizing a random set of objects and time to construct according to a slide accompanying Hayes’ statement.

Prior to Beeple’s tweet, OTOY’s Urbach offered additional information regarding the putative partnership with Breakpoint on Monday. “Mike is excited about this technology,” claimed Arbach. “It’s going to be sometime next year when we’ll put that out there. That’s how we both see the future of NFTs evolving.”

Beeple is already intimately associated with Render Network, having served as the platform’s advisor. Render Network is a decentralized, peer-to-peer network that enables producers to access distant rendering capacity.

RENDER Network, funded by Beeple, raises $30 million in Solana, Alameda, and other locations. In December, Render Network raised $30 million through a funding round in which Solana Foundation and Alameda Research participated.

Since making news last year with a $69 million NFT sale, Beeple has moved out into tokenized physical art with a “kinetic video sculpture” paired with an NFT and expanded to house works by himself and other artists.

Beeple disclosed that he anticipates NFTs will emphasize “emotional connection or utility” as opposed to “pure large-scale speculation.”

In his future efforts, “there will be some form of usefulness to having these things,” he asserts, and he is eager to investigate the opportunities presented by dynamic NFTs.
