Barcelona aims to have its own cryptocurrency

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said that the club wants to create its cryptocurrency to “survive financially” against clubs owned by huge enterprises and foreign investors.

According to Laporta, who spoke at this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Barca will release a range of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) shortly. Barca is also exploring the possibility of entering the bitcoin market.
Barca has rebuffed many offers to cooperate with cryptocurrency businesses to focus only on developing their digital currency.
“We’re creating our metaverse,” Laporta declared at a presentation. “That is why we declined the opportunity to partner with any bitcoin firms.”

“We want to develop our cryptocurrency and will have to do it independently.” We are unusual in that we are self-supporting only from money produced by the sports industry.

“We are not supported by huge corporations or institutional investors.” This motivates us to be innovative, brave, and ahead of the curve in several facets of the sports industry.”
Laporta indicated that the club plans to release their first line of NFTs soon as part of an effort that would “help the club’s finances.”

“It’s something we can share with our 300 million global fans,” he said. “I could say more, but I have to exercise caution since it is still secret.”

“The players are aware of our initiatives, that this is a forward-thinking club that welcomes new media.” Their contracts include provisions about the NFT reality and the metaverse.”
