Chicago Bulls NFT collection to feature top artists

The Chicago Bulls released an NFT series in the summer of 2021 named the Chicago Bulls Legacy Series, featuring its six-year championship history. Currently, it’s back in Web3 for more. Beginning later this month, the basketball franchise will release an NFT collection of 23 1/1 pieces of art recreating its logo. Below are all the details.

• The Bulls logo has been around since 1966 when Dean Wessel created it
• The 23 Web3 artists chose to redesign the logo involve Chicago natives
• Bobby Hundreds, Gxng Yxng of Ghxsts and the Deadfellaz founders will be in attendance
• None of the NFT logos will replace the actual Bulls logo

The team will auction off the NFT collection, called “The Aurochs” on September 22nd on the Coinbase marketplace. The starting price of the auctions will be 0.2 ETH (about $320 at the time of writing). 40% of the earnings will be given to the Bulls, another 40% to the artists, 10% to the NBA, and 10% to a non-profit charity which helps the youth of Chicago.

Claire Salvo, who interpreted the Bulls logo with pen on paper, stated that she grew up watching the Bulls teams play in the 1990s. It was a time when athletes were becoming pop culture icons, and that era is nostalgic for her.

The Bulls’ previous NFT collection, featuring images of the six championship rings, featured many IRL utilities for holders. At this time, the Bulls have not announced any utility for “The Aurochs” NFT series.

Basketball is betting big on Web3

Generally, the sports industry is betting big on Web3. But few parts of that industry have sunk as much as basketball. Currently, the NBA Web3 empire spans from NBA Top Shot, several Web3 video games, and even NFT series’. Below are three stories that has been covered about the NBA and Web3.

Initially, there is news from a few days ago. Thereafter, the NBA reported that it was collaborating with Sorare for a fantasy basketball NFT game. This collaboration is huge, as Sorare is worth billions of dollars and has taken the NFT fantasy football market by storm. The NBA hopes that the fantasy game will complement Top Shot, not steal customers away from it.

Second, there is the cooperation between the NBA and Niantic. Two months ago, the two revealed that they would be creating an augmented reality game together, the technology that underpins for the metaverse. They plan to make the game available for mobile devices, and users also can buy custom NBA apparel for their avatars.

Lastly, there is the NBA’s standalone NFT series. Released a few months ago ahead of the 2021-2022 NBA Playoffs, these 18,000 NFTs were dynamic, changing their appearance depending on a player’s playoff performance. They sold out quickly and traded in the hundreds of dollars during the playoffs.

The Chicago Bulls’ second NFT series is a big win for the Web3 space, as the team is highlighting the works of famous NFT artists. It also indicates that even as leagues enter Web3, there is still room for individual teams to build projects.
