Trump’s social media startup, Truth Social, launched on the Apple App Store, marking his return to the site after being banned last year.
The programme was made available for download just before midnight Eastern time, and pre-ordered by Apple customers. On Monday morning, it was the most downloaded free app. Reuters reports that the programme was tested by people who were invited to use it. Some users reported being unable to register an account or being placed on a waiting due to high demand.
Trump was banned from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube when his supporters attacked the US Capitol in January 2021.
Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) is run by former Republican congressman Devin Nunes. It joins a growing list of software businesses claiming to defend free expression to lure users who feel silenced on more established platforms.
