The Giants are off to a great start to the 2022-2023 NFL season. The team, which is in third place in its division with a record of four wins and one loss, has wins over Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears. That is to say, it is a good time to be a Giant. Nothing encapsulates this joyous atmosphere more than a viral video clip which released after the Giant’s beat the Green Bay Packers.
Warning: This is NSFW. In it, cornerback Darney Holmes stands on the sidelines with his pants partially down. An out-of-sight trainer “treats” Holmes for a possible leg injury. Based on the angle and movement of the trainer’s hand, viewers guess what injury the trainer could be “treating”.
Or, as Barstool Sports wrote in its viral Tweet: “Giants OnlyFans sale for 4-1 start. 50 percent discount until midnight.”
Holmes took it in stride, posting a tweet on Tuesday with a laughing emoji. “Y’all need to chill, no tent available,” he wrote. Everyone is having so much fun with this video; thus, I decided to collaborate with @momentoNFT and turn it into an NFT. I’ll give away some autographed balls and do some live streams too.”
MomentoNFT is a platform which enable social media users to convert their content into NFTs. These “social NFTs” reward fans of the social media creator via rewards, benefits, and experiences. The platform allows NFTs to sell via auctions or for a fixed price.
There is no telling when Holmes will convert video into NFT. But surly, the jokes will continue.
NFL bets big on Web3
As many industries have bet big on Web3, few have done so as much as the sports industry. As NFTs and Web3 technology allow organizations to connect with supporters in a new way, sports leagues have entered the arena. The NFL has been no different. Below are three stories related to the NFL and Web3.
Initially, there is the NFL’s ticket stub NFT program. A few months ago, the NFL expanded the schedule to involve 101 games in the 2022-2023 season, containing all games in Week 1. The ticket stubs act as a digital souvenir to remind people of the experience of attending a game.
Then, there is the NFL blockchain game “NFL Rivals”. Five months ago, the NFL revealed a collaboration with Mythical Games to produce the Web3 game, that players create and manage an NFL teams.
Ultimately, there is the NFL’s metaverse career opening. Eight months ago, the NFL created a job opening for a “senior director of content partnerships” which had clearly Web3 responsibilities in its description. There is no clear word when the NFL completed the hire.
Darnay Holmes turns his viral moment into a proposed NFT of the industry: A moment caught fire, and currently the major subject aims to immortalize it on the blockchain.
