NFT Tied to Rare Whiskey Cask Auction For 2.3 Million

An NFT related to a rare whiskey cask has sold for $2.3 million on NFT marketplace, Metacask. The NFT Macallan Whiskey 1991 reveals a whiskey-themed digital artwork by the well- known Scottish artist Trevor Jones. The sale broke the record previously set by Macallan in 1991 worth $573,000 and became the most costly barrel of whiskey sold in an auction.

“We are still talking about the $2.3 million auction record today with the assassination of Jones,” Metacask tweeted the previous day, October 23. The company also thanked its core investors Crypto.com, Vinny Lingham, westcoastbill, and Sunny Madra. The symbolic auction, that revealed on Metacask on October 18, had finished on October 22.

Along with the Macallan Whiskey, the winner of the auction got an audio-visual NFT artwork from Jones, entitled ‘The Angel’s share NFT.’ The NFT consists of two items. One is the 1/1 high- resolution scan of the oil painting. The second one is a 1/1 animation which shows the different details of the artwork that represents the cask. This contains the heads and wings of two angels, the roof of the Macallan’s distillery, the cask silhouette, and others.
