In a recent Twitter post, Ryder Ripps, creative director of the Punks’, accused BAYC of racism. In fact, he is attacking the heart concept of the project. Actually, this is exactly the same Ryder Ripps who created a sex tape with Azealia Banks. In a twitter space with more than 5,000 listeners, Ryder’s racism accusations led to a split inside the NFT community. As some people were backed these allegations, others believed that they are a deceived.
As the space closed, the popular hashtag about the Bored Apes and its racist connotations acquired a boost. Depending on those who claim, the main connection to racism derives from the name of the creator, Yuga Labs. Seemingly, “Yuga” itself is the subject of white racist and cartoons found in cyberspace. Additionally, many users recognized some features and labeling to have similarities to Nazi SS and alt-right symbolism.
Nevertheless, some Twitter users have accused marketplaces of being racialist since removing Jungle Freaks on racist charges, but no action has been taken against BAYC.
However, Bored Apes fans and collectors, rapidly dismissed the racist allegations and confronted Ryder Rips. “Honestly, this BAYC drama is like a cheap marketing tactic from Punks,” said Twitter user @moonOverlord. It was great when the punks were anti-stabilization, and anti-focus, but at this time, they are publicly attacking the top NFT 1 by 1 projects.
