It’s not surprising that NBA legend Scottie Pippen has announced that he will launch a new web3 project that uses his image and is based on the Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution Artbitrum. This is because a lot of celebrities are getting involved in the NFT space.
Pippen Joins the Metaverse
This new project is part of a deal between Pippen and the fantasy role-playing game Smolverse. The player posted a pixelated picture of himself on Twitter to share the news. The picture is now part of the Smolverse ecosystem.
“Got my first custom NFT made for me thanks to @smolverse. I need some more good NFT projects to check out,” the six-time NBA championship winner said.
Pippen enters other athletes who have worked on the Smolverse project, including Borussia Dortmund, PSV Eindhoven, and Eintracht Frankfurt. He also joins other basketball players who have joined NFTs, like Steph Curry.
In the past few years, both individual player collections and whole NFT marketplaces like NBA Top Shots have been launched to great success. Fans clearly want these kinds of things a lot, and it looks like Pippen’s NFT journey is just getting started.
