The developer of Final Fantasy is continuing its drive into Web3 via the Elixir launcher, which already integrates with the Epic Games Store.
Square Enix, the Japanese game company that made the hit Final Fantasy series, stated that it will work with PC gaming platform Elixir to help more people play Web3 games.
Elixir’s platform has both traditional and Web3 games, and it recently added the library of games from the famous Epic Games Store. With Square Enix on board, Elixir wants to make the Web2 and Web3 gaming worlds even less different than they are now.
Square Enix partners with Elixir to drive Web3 gaming adoption
“This partnership with Elixir Games represents yet another step for Square Enix to explore the promise of Web3-decentralized gaming,” said Square Enix Director of Business Development Hidaki Uehera, in a statement.
Even though not much is known about how Elixir and Square Enix will work together, Elixir CEO Carlos Roldan thinks it will help bring Web3 games to more people.
“This partnership brings us closer to Web3 gaming mass adoption,” he said in a statement. “Our team is incredibly excited to bring our technology to work, and we foresee Elixir users playing Web2 and Web3 games alike without distinction.”
“2023 has already seen more industry leaders enter the space with impactful projects, and we anticipate to see more as the year progresses,” Roldan added. “We’ve put all efforts to ensure we are ready for scalability.”
Square Enix has been talking about the promise of Web3 gaming for years, and in 2020, it led a round of investments in the metaverse game The Sandbox.
Early in 2022, President Yosuke Matsuda wrote that such crypto game economies constitute a new technology that is “here to stay.” Matsuda stated previously that Square Enix considered 2021 to be “Year One” for NFTs.And in late 2022, Square Enix announced Symbiogenesis, its first Web3 game, which will utilize the Ethereum scaling network Polygon for its NFT elements.
Elixir, a gaming platform, has recently expanded its launcher by incorporating several Web3 games. The launcher now offers a diverse range of titles across various blockchain networks such as Solana, BNB Chain, Ethereum, and Polygon. Some of the games available include MMORPG World Eternal Online, card battlers like Raini: Lords of Light and Elemental Raiders, and RPGs like Chronos and Bornless.
