Sandbox is an environment in the world of cybersecurity. It resembles an isolated virtual machine which potentially executes unsafe software code without affecting network resources or local applications.
Researchers in the field of cybersecurity make use of sandboxes to run suspicious code from unknown attachments and URLs and observe its behavior. Sandbox is an emulated environment, which has no access to the network, data or other applications. Therefore, security teams can safely “detonate” the code to determine how it works and whether it is malicious.
On the other hand, developers also use sandbox outside of cybersecurity to test environments and run code before widespread deployment.
