French Video Game Industry Giants Despite the backlash from players, Ubisoft believes the metaverse is the next step in gaming, which is why they’re doing many experiments with gaming NFTs in The Sandbox metaverse. Ubisoft has partnered with the Sandbox metaverse platform in the latest example of the convergence of game creation and NFTs.
Ubisoft’s strategy is consistent with a broader trend of traditional gaming behemoths aiming to sell user stuff in the metaverse using NFTs, blockchain-based vouchers used to verify digital asset ownership.
However, gamers are disputing the role of NFTs in video games, with some opposing it as a new kind of monetization that, if abused, can be predatory or even ruin the gaming experience.
According to Chief Executive Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft Entertainment SA can remain independent despite the consolidation tsunami sweeping the videogame industry and is prepared to seize any opportunities created by the metaverse’s expansion.
